My Birth Story and Three Ways to Style a Full-Term Belly
I am finally here to share my birth story and a few looks I styled on my last two days of pregnancy. I had the pleasure of working with a very talented photografer Alena Melnik from Vasilisa Photography. She captured the very last moments of my big and beautiful belly in her own creative way and I am so happy to have these memories now.
Taking pictures at 40.5 weeks was the last thing on my agenda, but having these now is priceless. As the sayings go you forget the hardships of pregnancy and birth so quickly once done. The immense love that overflows your heart the minute you meet your nugget is all the cure one needs to heal and forget the hardship quickly.
The shoot took place at my house, making it much easier to feel comfortable and in my element. I have been living pool side with late Spring temperature in 90s for the whole last week of my pregnancy. This came with the swelling and little mobility. My cover-up that I wrapped around my waist pre baby served me well at my biggest self.
The handkerchief dress, is a a perfect item to stye the bump. Tying a little belt below the belly, added a tailored touch and highlighting the biggest asset of my pregnant body.
The African kaftan that I picked up at a local vintage store, is a perfect option to last me through the summer pool side. The style has the roominess to fit a 40 weeks body as well as look flattering post baby. I have already worn it twice after the delivery.
For those who followed my pregnancy journey, you know how difficult the last months have been on my body. I did not walk or sleep much. The anticipation of the arrival left me waiting longer than imagined, but in reality he was only two days past my due date. The time seemed to slow down on those last days.
My birth story began on the night of Sunday to Monday May 22nd, 2017. I woke up from a seriously painful contraction. The pain was also exciting to me as I knew this was it! I did what the doctors tell you to. First I laid and waited for 20 minutes counting the contractions waiting for four minute intervals. I then walked around as they continued and rose in pain. I knew it was time to wake up my husband and put our game plan in action.
My dear friend Irina, was on stand by all week to house Yana for the delivery. Thankfully she responded to my 3.30 am call. As we were packing up, the intensity was rising high and quickly. I told Andy I felt like I had less then an hour till I delivered so he put the gas petal to the metal!
Going into my second pregnancy I knew I would be getting an epidural the first moment I could. With Yana I missed the moment trying to do the natural thing. I respect the women who choose to do all natural births. The pain is by far worse one imagines and I knew this time I was going to stay ahead of it and get that medicine in me.
I am so lucky to say I had the easiest delivery imaginable. Once the epidural kicked in it wasn’t but a few minutes before the doctor said it was time to push. I did not feel like pushing, but of course I followed their instructions as they suited up. Three pushes and my beautiful baby boy was born. I did not feel a thing. I guess having had a tough few weeks prior to delivery awarded me with a seamless birth.
