Street Style MBFW Russia 2018: From Heels to Sneakers

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia debuted in the capitol, Moscow, last Saturday and is officially in full swing. The week is filled with hundreds of noteworthy shows, speeches by industry leaders and cutting-edge street style. All of these events are attracting thousands of fashionistas to the Manage where the majority of the festivities are held. Most of the “show-off” moments happen right outside of this grand establishment. This is the place where everyone gathers prior to shows in hopes of having their photo taken by one of the major publications.

Observing and analyzing street style during fashion week is known to set the tone for the current trends. This season proves that the overly sporty and craft-fully layered look is to dominate Street Style of Moscow.

Russian style is perceived oversees as overdressed and mostly in heels. Yet Street Style MBFW 2018 confirms Russians are giving their feet a break by bringing back the grandpa-chic kicks in to the daily mix. Paired with dresses, denim, and sporty pants, these shoes are earning themselves a permanent spot for the Spring months ahead.

One could describe the local style as “east meets west”. Even though the trends are influenced by major fashion houses from around the world, young Russians are noticeably adding a nod to their roots.  Nationalism is felt not just on billboards around the city, but is proudly worn by the fashionable Russian youth on tees, hoodies, socks and more. With elections about to happen in Moscow, the energy is loud and clear.

The traditional mink coats are swapped out for oversized puffers and tastefully layered outwear. The art of layering takes a whole new meaning for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia. After all the temperatures are still below zero, but it does not faze the trendiest of the visitors. These effortless looks are achieved by layering denim or bombers with longer wool coats.
