OliaModa @ Sacramento Fashion Week 2016 Recap
Over the past several weeks, all eyes have been on the Fashion Weeks around the world, from New York to Paris. While enjoying the collections from these top houses, I happily followed the Fashion Week in my new home town, Sacramento, CA. It was the 10 year anniversary of Sacramento Fashion Week, SAC FW16, February 21 to 27. I met friendly and stylish people, creative local designers and boutique owners, and have nothing but good things to say about the talent here and the well-organized fashion week.
I have been looking forward to sharing what I saw and what I wore at SACFW16. Read on for a summary of who got my attention, what I wore to each event, and where to shop it.
Opening Night on February 21 at the CA Auto Museum was dedicated to showcasing local boutiques. Check out the links to my favorites: Krazy Mary, Retrospect Vintage and Mirror Mirror. For this kick off to the anniversary event, I updated a classic black pencil skirt with an edgy fringe belt, cropped top and jacket, and added shiny black booties to set off a big statement purse.

It was Emerging Young Talent Show on Thursday, February 25th. The quality and creativity of the designs was amazing. In particular, the closing show of design student Christy Jahlea Jahlou was so unexpected and very creative. I would love to wear her designs at the next Burning Man. That night, I styled myself with a vintage green crop top and shorts combo paired with over-the-knee boots to pick up on the creative vibe of upcoming talent.
My favorite event of the week was definitely the Saturday night Fall/Winter Preview. The quality of the production and the stage set up was surprising. My favorite items from the whole show were the bags shown in the Queen’s Chair collection. The craftsmanship, the material and the detail of these bags were incredible. It left me obsessing to own more than one.
But, for me, the show stopper of the fashion event was the Lena Trotsko collection. Of course her Russian heritage is appealing, but I admired her collection for its sense of drama! From the dresses to the hair and the make up, the looks were just phenomenal. She is an up and coming Russian designer who I follow and think is on track to conquer America.
That night, I styled myself to capture the closing night drama with a shimmering black silk jumpsuit paired with shiny silver heels. I added a handmade bottle cap clutch for bit of whimsy. My stunning, complementary jewelry was courtesy of Manika Jewelry of San Francisco. I chose precious stone earrings, a necklace and two rings from their international artisan collection to highlight the elegance and shine of the black jumpsuit and heels. Their boutique on San Francisco’s Market Street is both sophisticated and warm, known for its international eye and elegance.
So, all in all, it was a very enjoyable and productive week spent at SACFW16. I will continue to follow and present the designers and boutiques showcased here in Sacramento this week and hope it provides inspiration to you to express your inner beauty with style.
Well done @SacFw16, see you next year!
