3 Best Places to Shop Vintage in Northern California
Wearing vintage is a way to ensure your clothing is entirely unique. I love finding a treasure that can be reinvented in a modern and edgy way. I believe paring vintage with modern elements is a great way to create your unique style. Today, I am sharing with you my favorite Northern California finds. If you are intimidated to incorporate vintage into your closet, these older posts might just get you the inspo you need.
Have you ever noticed that you will often see the same trends come back again and again? Trends in fashion can change faster than the seasons but vintage classics will always be a staple in your wardrobe. Searching the racks of a thrift store for the perfect retro paisley print or embroidered denim jacket can often end up being one in a million. Which is why it is time for you to stop thrifting and start sifting… through the racks of these amazing vintage shops.
While Northern California has tons of amazing vintage stores you can visit, there are three that stick out to me in particular. Whether you are looking for a steal of a deal or a luxury treasure, you are sure to find a gem at one of these places below:
Racks Vintage Boutique is an amazing little vintage shop that carries some of the most unique finds. Located in Midtown Sacramento, it is small but mighty and if you blink as you drive by you just might miss it! Don’t be fooled by the size though! This place is jam packed with every girls’ vintage dream and is extremely well organized. Racks is a place that whether you are searching for a costume for a play or a statement piece to add to your wardrobe you are sure to find it and walk out with one or more vintage pieces that will have you feeling like a piece of history.
In this small-town boutique, you get the ultimate customer experience. The owner and Sacramento native, Rachael Fowler makes you feel right at home. If you are ever in the area and are able to check this place out, mention this blog post and receive 10% off your order!
My San Francisco boss-babes, who are obsessed with 70’s bohemian vintage apparel, this one is for you! Wallflower, a boutique located in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District. It first opened in 2013 by owners Victoria Nicoll and Lindsey Chambers. These two can help you pick out the perfect look in-store from their ever-changing vintage selection. Their talents are truly unparalleled with knowledge of fit, pattern, and style. Victoria designs the Wallflower Collection which is made sustainably in Los Angeles, CA.
Wallflower also hosts the Bouquet Market in Berkeley, CA three times a year during Spring, Summer and Fall. Bouquet Market is like a local flea market but better. Think curated, epic vintage shopping and locally handmade apparel, jewelry, home goods, accessories and art for all budgets. The next one is coming up on Saturday, July 21st and you won’t want to miss it. But if you can’t make it don’t worry they have a Bouquet mini market in store. There you can shop some local treasures from up and coming artists.
If you are looking for a truly authentic vintage experience that will give you all of the nostalgic 70’s California girl vibes head to their store on Valencia Street. Say hello to the wonderful staff, and let them know I sent you for a little prize… (15% off your purchase in store!)
When I tell you that this is the one event vintage lovers should be saving their money for, I mean it! While this is not quite a “vintage shop” it still belongs on this list because of its place as a one stop shop for all things classy and chic. Think of it as being able to travel the world of luxury vintage items in one place over one weekend. Anna Wintour was seen attending a few years back… yes, THE Anna Wintour.
I had a chance to talk with the co-owner of the faire, Sandra Michaan, who let me in on some amazing details about this year’s affair being called the “September Issue.” There will be 65+ vendors from the bay area, Los Angeles, Oregon, Washington and much more, as well as a vintage bar, live DJ, and a costume contest where you have the chance to win $100 towards your purchase at the faire.
The event will be taking place on September 15th & 16th and has free parking! The tickets cost $20 dollars at the door or $15 dollars if you buy them ahead of time on Brown Paper Tickets. Mention this blog post at the door and receive a FREE tote bag! Don’t miss this year’s Alameda Point Vintage Fashion Faire, it’s going to be the biggest one yet!
So, whether you’re a bay area native or just visiting at the moment be sure to pop into one of these amazing vintage shops. Once there you are sure to find unique and authentic treasures to bring home! And make sure to let them know I sent and get a little reward for your continuous readership!
I hope these three vintage options give you plenty of ideas for creating your unique look. I’d love to hear if you visited these shops or events. Do you have any vintage shops to share, drop a line in the comment below.
